Greetings!

Just like me, I’m sure you have been looking for bell peppers in your shares. I’m sorry to say that our green pepper crop has pretty much been a failure this year-most have succumbed to what looks like blossom end rot that you see often see on tomatoes. The county extension agent has been to the farm whose peppers were affected, and we are waiting to see what he finds may have caused the problem. In all our years of working with this farmer, this is a first for him. His peppers have always been beautiful.  We are hoping that he can salvage some but we aren’t holding out a lot of hope.

We had a lot of rain yesterday and today and we are thankful for it – we needed it desperately, but due to the heavy gully washers, bean fields were soaked and we didn’t want to risk them getting moldy by picking them when they were wet.  (Ask me how I know about this)

Hopefully the rain will help out the corn crop, the dry weather has not been good for corn.  The kernels don’t fill out well when they don’t get enough rain. Until yesterday, it’s been very dry in our area. It would be nice if everything growing right now would get synchronized with our weather!  Ahh, farm life.  (Still love it though).

”What’s in my share this week?” Tomatoes, banana peppers, squash, zucchini, potatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, and okra. The Combo share this week get Tomatoes.

Just for fun—Our next full moon – the full Sturgeon Moon, should reach its peak on August 11 according to the Old Farmers Almanac.. It will be the last supermoon of the year! It’s called the Sturgeon Moon because the giant sturgeon of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain were most readily caught during this part of summer.

Home Delivery members-don’t forget to put out the cooler on your delivery day-it’s going to be hot again this week!

Anyone have any experience using an Instant Pot Duo Crisp? I’m late to the IP party but I’d like to know what you get good results with, using your Instant Pot.

We hope you have a wonderful week, stay healthy and enjoy the rest of summer. Until next week,

Judy
