Good afternoon!

Can you believe we are already in week 14 of our 24 week CSA season?  Time has passed so fast!

We hope you are enjoying your summer shares.

This week your Combo share will feature Tomatoes.  And for the Fruit Lover’s you will be getting those delicious Gala apples again.  They are so good with just the right amount of crunch!

What’s in the box this week?  I will sum it up this way – you will be getting pretty much the same items this week as was in last week’s shares.  It’s the time of the year when certain vegetables become more prolific when you are eating seasonally from the garden.  This week you will be getting some really delicious okra for the first time this season!  This okra is medium sized so it will be versatile enough to cook any way you please.  We particularly like it dipped in a flavorful olive oil, sea salt, pepper and then skewered and grilled!  One of our long time CSA members Sheila Murphy, put us on to this idea a few years ago.  It’s equally delicious with the same seasonings and baked in the oven at about 425 degrees or so.  Turn only once while cooking.  I like to squeeze a bit of fresh lemon juice on mine when I take it off the grill or out of the oven.  Don’t mind me, I like fresh squeezed lemon on many fresh veggies.  By the way, if you don’t care for okra because of the “slime” factor, baking it or grilling eliminates all that.  Give it a try using the suggestions I just mentioned.

You will also be getting those wonderful Pea Ridge cantaloupes once again, though they are nearly done for this year.  I look forward to their harvest every summer.  We keep them peeled and sliced at the ready for snacking when we have them.  This week please, eat your cantaloupe the same day or at least the day after you get them-they are very ripe!  Don’t hold them over.

You all can stop the rain dancing that I asked for this time last week.  We got a lot, you did some fine dancing I must say! We hope you got a bit at your home too.

I’d like to recognize Sarah, Howard, Elaine, Julianne and Farmer John for the lovely assembly of your shares each week in the packing room.  They have looked so pretty every week. Sarah, Howard, John and me are your delivery team and we all look forward to seeing you every week. Of course none of these beautiful shares would be possible this season without the hard work every day of our partner farmers.  God bless them every one!  We thank them for their contributions to our farm’s CSA community.

Until next week, stay well, wear your masks, and eat your veggies!photoSummerShares

Hugs,
