CSA rocks on, week #2
‘Wow, what a difference a week makes in the growth of crops. Last week I mentioned that our first week box would be light and it was in our mind, but this weeks box should make up well for it. Some weeks are just always going to be better than others. I tell you this because this is just the nature of farming. Farming is dependent on so many variables, but the flavor of the food and the nutrition you get from from the food because it hasn’t traveled thousands of miles to reach your table, is so worth the work that goes into it, even if you can’t control the variables. So, do enjoy this weeks haul!
“What’s in my share this week” Napa cabbage, green cabbage, lettuce, green onions, broccoli, strawberries, green beans, cucumbers, and English peas. (Some of the above will be in your shares. Contents in our 3 share sizes vary. Share contents in Tennessee could vary from those delivered in Alabama). Our English peas are not prolific this season, so we suggest you shell them and eat them raw in a green salad. We do this, but find we eat most of them while we’re shelling them, they’re so good raw. Get your school age children to help shell the peas, they will enjoy it plus they may even sample them while shelling.
Please don’t forget to pick up your CSA share this week, times and days are on the website pick up location page. If you can’t make it to pick up let us know in advance of your pick up day – 48 hours notice please. . (By the way – you can also have someone pick up for you)
If you have a favorite recipe from a website that uses a veggie or fruit from your CSA share, please send the link to us and we will pass it along in the Newsletter. Who doesn’t love a good recipe?
Be cautious in the heat forecast for our area this week, do stay hydrated! Eat your Cucumbers!
‘Till next weeks newsletter,
